Foster refocused on his old company after Salsbury Motors filed for bankruptcy in August 1947. Foster's old company retained ownership of various key intellectual property items during the Avion - Northrop years, including the patents to the automatic drives. The automatic drives, which Foster and his team pioneered for the Motor Glide scooters, would ultimately turn Foster into a successful businessman. According to a Salsbury company newsletter in the early 1970s, for example, Salsbury automatic drives were installed in 90% of the snowmobiles being used.
Foster and his wife owned roughly 2/3 of the shares of Salsbury Corp. In August 1969, Foster and the other shareholders sold their Salsbury Corp shares to Integrated Systems Corp (ISC), with Foster staying on in a management capacity.
While this website is all about Foster's Salsbury scooters, the scooter business ultimately proved to be a long and hard road for Foster. Since the Foster story has a happy ending, with a stock sale, we will cover the post-scooter years here as well, although briefly.
For a guy who lived thru the depression, buying a new Cadillac was as good as it could get. A true measure of success.
