In 1943 the Army apparently sent out a request for bids for a scooter designed to help in the invasion in Europe. Foster sent Roscoe a letter stating Foster was excited about the prospects.
The Army requested bids for a motorized scooter, presumably to help with the invasion of Europe. Foster and his team put together the scooter to the right - based on a 5 hp motor. Foster touched on this prototype scooter in a letter to Roscoe date July 1943. Salsbury did not win the bid. It doesn't appear that the Army purchased a large number of scooters from anybody, however. Cushman reportedly sold less than 5000 of its Airborne scooter model during the war period.
